What the report says

BBC Sport says the draw for the 2026-27 Conference League league phase is scheduled for Friday, 28 August at 12:00 BST in Monaco, alongside the Europa League draw. The competition will again feature 36 clubs, with Hearts currently the only team already confirmed for the league phase and the remaining places to be settled through qualifying on Thursday.

The new league phase format gives each club six matches rather than the eight played in the other UEFA competitions. Teams will be split into six pots, ranked by UEFA club coefficient over the five-season period ending with the 2025-26 campaign. Each side will face one opponent from each pot and will not be paired with a club from the same country.

BBC Sport also outlines the qualification outlook for several British and Irish clubs. Rangers would enter Pot 1 if they qualify, while Brighton and Hove Albion could still reach the top pot under a specific combination of results. Hearts are expected to be placed no higher than Pot 2, and clubs such as Motherwell and Hibernian would be in lower pots based on their coefficients. Shamrock Rovers and Larne are described as relatively higher-ranked than some of the Scottish clubs still in contention.

The article explains why the draw matters: the top eight finishers advance directly to the round of 16, teams placed ninth to 24th go into a knockout play-off round, and the bottom 12 are eliminated after the league phase.
