The Globe framed the market as unusual because many teams remain near playoff position, increasing the chance of trades between contenders, such as Boston’s deal sending pitcher Connelly Early for hitter Curtis Mead.

According to the Globe, rival evaluators view the Red Sox farm system as thinner than before, especially beyond its top names. Shortstop Franklin Arias, recently promoted to Triple-A Worcester and described as one of baseball’s elite prospects, would be extremely difficult to move unless Boston pursued a high-end, controllable major leaguer. The report noted past discussions involving Arias in talks for players such as Joe Ryan or Ketel Marte, while suggesting a player like Angels shortstop Zach Neto would likely require that level of prospect cost.

Pitching prospects appear to offer Boston more trade flexibility. The Globe identified righthander Anthony Eyanson as the club’s top pitching prospect, with strong 2026 performance but some questions about whether his velocity will hold at its highest level. Other arms mentioned as possible pieces include Juan Valera, Kyson Witherspoon, Marcus Phillips, John Holobetz and Sadbiel Delzine, ranging from injured high-upside pitchers to lower-level power arms.

The report said Boston’s position-player depth behind Arias is less certain, with names such as Justin Gonzales, Enddy Azocar, Franklin Primera and Henry Godbout carrying potential but also development questions.
