Turkiye is signalling that its new defence pact with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan could widen beyond the three founding members, according to Al Jazeera. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the arrangement should not stay limited to three countries and suggested more states could eventually come under the same security umbrella. The Mecca Joint Deterrence Agreement was signed on Friday in a move analysts say could contribute to a new regional security framework.

Al Jazeera reports that Egypt is the only country publicly named by an official from one of the signatories as a possible next member. Fidan described Egypt as a natural partner and said he expected Cairo to join later once technical issues were settled. Analysts quoted by the outlet said Egypt already works with the three countries in regional forums, but may hesitate because a binding defence commitment could affect its other alliances, peace treaties and relations with the United States and Israel.

Several Gulf states have also been mentioned as possible additions. Former Qatari prime minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani called on Gulf Cooperation Council members to consider joining, while analysts said Qatar and Kuwait look like the most plausible candidates. Other names raised included Azerbaijan, Syria and Jordan. The report says any expansion is likely to happen gradually, with each government weighing its own security concerns and diplomatic risks.
