Sebastien Pocognoli has agreed an initial two-year deal to become Scotland men’s head coach, replacing Steve Clarke after a seven-year spell. BBC Sport says the 39-year-old Belgian arrives with a reputation for progressive, attacking football after winning the Belgian title with Union Saint-Gilloise, although he was dismissed by Monaco in June after eight months in charge.

The Scottish FA and observers cited by BBC Sport expect Pocognoli to keep Scotland’s recent tournament record intact while also changing the team’s style of play. Under Clarke, Scotland reached back-to-back European Championships and a World Cup, but many supporters want a more front-foot approach. Pocognoli has previously described his football as dominant in and out of possession, with intense pressing and control on the ball.
