Western Region Veterans Elect Wazalendo SACCO Delegate

What the report says
More than 200 veterans from Uganda’s Western Region gathered at the Mountain Infantry Division headquarters in Muhooti, Fort Portal, to elect a representative for the Wazalendo SACCO annual general meeting and related welfare discussions. According to Watchdog Uganda, Lance Corporal Kato Peter won the vote and will serve as the delegate for veterans from the region’s three sectors of Kisoro, Mbarara and Fort Portal.
The meeting was intended to improve veteran representation within WSACCO structures and make sure concerns from retired members are raised and followed up. Lt Col Akasius Mpabaisi, described as the SACCO’s political commissar and head of the delegation, said the election was meant to give veterans a clear voice in the organization’s engagements. He also told former members who had left WSACCO that they could still rejoin and access its services.
Brigadier General (Rtd) Philip Mugarura, the Operation Wealth Creation Regional Coordinator, praised the turnout and said the veterans’ unity remained a positive example. He encouraged them to stay healthy, pursue productive projects in retirement and continue contributing to community development using the experience gained during military service.
Kato thanked the voters and pledged to represent their concerns effectively. The event was attended by officials from the Mountain Infantry Division, including the political commissar, public information officer and division sergeant major.
