West Nile Leaders Urge Government to Complete Gen Moses Ali’s Unfinished Legacy

Nile Post reports that leaders from Uganda’s West Nile sub-region have urged the government to honour the late Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali by completing development projects associated with his advocacy and tackling long-running gaps in infrastructure and public services. The appeal was made on Wednesday during a special West Nile regional council sitting at Paridi Stadium in Adjumani, convened to pay tribute to the former Second Deputy Prime Minister and long-serving Adjumani West MP.

According to the report, Ali’s casket arrived at about 10:30am, accompanied by the UPDF Brass Band and senior military officers, before the memorial sitting attended by LC5 chairpersons, MPs serving as ex-officio members, and other local government leaders. Adjumani District Council Speaker Moses Rokani Simba, who chaired the sitting, said Ali’s service to West Nile and Uganda should be preserved. Adjumani LC5 Chairperson John Anyanzo Ambayo singled out the proposed Laropi Bridge and the creation of municipalities for Moyo, Adjumani and Yumbe among projects leaders want advanced.

Other district leaders, including Yumbe’s Abdulmutwalib Mahamoud Asiku, Moyo’s Jimmy Vukoni Okudi, Arua’s Cosmas Ayikobua and Maracha’s Emmanuel Wani, described Ali as a unifying and influential figure while pressing for more investment in roads, services and regional development. The leaders submitted an eight-point memorandum setting out priority concerns, which they said should be addressed as part of preserving Ali’s legacy.

Vice President Jessica Alupo, the chief mourner, said President Museveni had met Ali’s family and pledged support, and that the memorandum would be forwarded to him for consideration. Nile Post says Alupo cited the Laropi Bridge and Laropi-Moyo-Afoji road as areas where government action was already under way.
