West Indies thrash Bangladesh by eight wickets in first Test in Mirpur

What the report says
West Indies earned a convincing eight-wicket win over Bangladesh in the first Test in Mirpur, Bangladesh, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. According to Al Jazeera, the visitors chased down 170 in 35.1 overs on the fourth day, driven by Brandon King’s unbeaten 81, a career-best Test score. John Campbell also contributed 49 as West Indies made a strong start before weather interruptions slowed play.
Bangladesh were earlier dismissed for 142 in their second innings, after resuming day four at 79-6 with a 106-run lead. Jomel Warrican took 4-63 in the innings and was named player of the match, while captain Roston Chase claimed 5-36 for West Indies. Nayeem Hasan top-scored for Bangladesh with a maiden Test half-century, but the home side could not build a large enough target.
The result extends a positive run in red-ball cricket for West Indies, who have shown improved form across formats in recent weeks. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said his side fell short in all three departments, especially in the field, and noted that the team would need to adjust to the conditions better.
The second and final Test is scheduled for Sylhet on November 5, giving Bangladesh a chance to level the series and West Indies an opportunity to secure a series win.
