West Indies beat India in record chase as Hope hits 162 in third ODI

What the report says
West Indies captain Shai Hope produced an unbeaten 162 to lead his side to a record ODI chase against India in Chandigarh on Saturday, as the visitors reached 352-5 and won by five wickets with 10 balls remaining. Al Jazeera, citing The Associated Press, reported that the total surpassed the West Indies’ previous best successful chase in one-day internationals and ended India’s winning start to the three-match series, which the hosts had already secured with earlier victories in Thiruvananthapuram and Guwahati.
Hope’s innings came after he moved up to open when Jewel Andrew was reportedly injured while fielding. He built key partnerships with Amir Jangoo, Sherfane Rutherford and Keemo Paul, then finished the match himself. His 162 was his second-highest ODI score and his 21st century in the format. Jangoo made 67 and Paul added 44, while Gudakesh Motie stayed unbeaten on 19.
India’s innings had earlier been driven by Rohit Sharma’s 92 and Lokesh Rahul’s unbeaten 129. India finished on 351-7, but the total was not enough after early wickets left the hosts rebuilding. The report said the West Indies overcame India in ODIs for the first time since 2023. The teams are next scheduled to begin a five-match Twenty20 series in Lucknow on Tuesday.
