What the report says

Pearl Bank Uganda’s Wendi mobile wallet has been recognized with the Financial Inclusion Impact Award at the FITSPA Industry Awards 2026, an accolade announced on July 31 during World FinTech Day Uganda celebrations at Sheraton Kampala Hotel in Kampala. FITSPA, the Financial Technology Service Providers Association, uses the awards to highlight companies and innovators contributing to Uganda’s digital financial ecosystem.

According to Nile Post, the award reflects Wendi’s role in widening access to digital finance for users who may struggle to rely on conventional banking. The platform, launched in November 2023, reportedly serves more than one million customers through a network of over 13,000 agents across the country. It allows users to send and receive money, pay bills, make merchant payments, access Western Union services and save through a mobile app or USSD code.

Pearl Bank’s head of marketing and communications, Priscilla Akora, said the recognition underscores the bank’s effort to make financial services more accessible, affordable and convenient, particularly for underserved communities. The bank also said Wendi has been used in government payment initiatives, including Parish Development Model disbursements and relief support in Bududa. The award adds to a series of recent industry honors for the platform and comes as Ugandan banks and fintech firms continue expanding digital services to reach more customers beyond traditional branches.
