We let fans down, says Nuno after West Ham defeat

What the report says
West Ham United manager Nuno Espirito Santo said his side had “let down” their supporters after a 2-1 home defeat by Charlton in the Championship. The result came in West Ham’s first league match at London Stadium this season, and left the club with just one point from their opening two games after a draw at Burnley in which they had led 2-0.
According to BBC Sport Football, Charlton took an early lead through Lloyd Jones before Tyreece Campbell doubled the advantage after the break. West Ham had most of the possession and created several chances, but their finishing and defending were not enough to prevent a surprise setback in front of more than 62,000 fans. Taty Castellanos later missed a stoppage-time penalty, adding to the frustration.
Nuno said the pressure at a club the size of West Ham is constant and stressed that the players must improve in both boxes. He pointed to the team’s high possession and expected attacking role this season, while saying the focus now is on repeating their work and staying confident in the process.
The defeat increases attention on West Ham after relegation from the Premier League in May, with promotion expected to be the club’s aim. Their next match is a Carabao Cup tie against Southampton, followed by league games against Watford and Wolves.
