What the report says

Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) has appointed Maj Seth Kamutera Ngabirano as its new Board Secretary, replacing Capt Abel Mwesigye, who had been serving in an acting role. The handover took place on September 1 during a ceremony led by Brig Gen Gaetano Omola, vice chairman of the WSACCO Board of Directors, and attended by board members and other officials, according to Nile Post.

The publication said the leadership change comes as WSACCO continues to expand its membership, assets and lending operations. Brig Gen Omola urged the incoming secretary to maintain continuity and protect the institution’s progress, while also emphasizing humility, transparency and stewardship in leadership transitions. WSACCO Chief Executive Officer Brig Gen Yusuf Magero Buha thanked Capt Mwesigye for his service and encouraged him to remain an ambassador for the cooperative.

Maj Ngabirano said he would carry out his duties with professionalism and integrity and work closely with the board, management and stakeholders. WSACCO, founded in 2005 by the Uganda People’s Defence Force, has grown into one of Uganda’s larger savings and credit cooperatives, serving UPDF personnel, civilian defence staff, reservists and eligible family members. Nile Post reported that its expansion has included a larger asset base, a substantial loan portfolio and more than 117,000 active members, underscoring the importance of governance as the institution grows.
