Wakiso District Local Government says it has received 1.773 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets ahead of a mass distribution exercise planned for the first week of November 2026. The consignment came from Uganda’s Ministry of Health and was received by district leaders led by LCV Chairperson Eng. Ian Kyeyune, who flagged the nets off for delivery to sub-counties and later to parish storage facilities identified with the ministry and the district malaria focal person.

According to the district, the nets will be kept securely until distribution begins. Kyeyune urged technical teams to account for the supplies carefully, store them properly and ensure they are shared according to the set guidelines. He also appealed to residents to use the nets for sleeping under them and not to sell or divert them for other uses such as fishing or poultry rearing.

The district said the campaign is meant to strengthen malaria prevention in Wakiso, where health officials say malaria remains a major cause of illness and death. Assistant District Health Officer Betty Nabuganda called the arrival of the nets an important boost to prevention efforts, while Assistant Resident District Commissioner Muwanga Lutaaya said security would be provided at storage centres and warned against theft or diversion.

The report also notes that leaders and health teams want close coordination during last-mile delivery, especially in areas including Katabi, Entebbe and Masulita. In broader public health terms, large net distribution campaigns are commonly used across malaria-endemic areas to reduce mosquito bites and support household protection.
