Wakiso Health Assembly Sets Pace for Other Districts

Wakiso District Local Government reported that the Ministry of Health has praised Wakiso for launching an Annual Health Assembly, saying it offers a useful forum for accountability, community participation and coordination in health service delivery. The remarks were made by Assistant Commissioner Dr. Moses Muwanga at the 2026 Wakiso Annual Health Assembly, which reviewed the district’s health sector performance for the 2025/2026 financial year.

According to the district’s report, the assembly brought together health officials, political leaders, development partners and other stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges and follow-up actions. Dr. Muwanga encouraged Wakiso to add community health barazas so residents can raise concerns directly. He also urged health workers to improve professionalism, avoid absenteeism, respect patients and make greater use of client charters and integrated screening services.

The district used the forum to highlight major pressures on service delivery, including staffing shortages, medicine supply constraints and growing demand from a population of more than three million. Assistant District Health Officer Betty Nabuganda said Wakiso has far fewer health workers than it needs, while District Drug Inspector Ronald Sserufusa said medicine funding has increased but remains insufficient. The Vice Chairperson, Hon. Ssentalo Sinasio Musambwa, pledged support for stronger advocacy, and the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Ms. Angel Namulimbe, backed efforts to improve professionalism and patient care.

The district said the assembly was held under the theme of collaboration, accountability and collective resilience in delivering quality health care.
