Wakaliwood to shoot action film at Nyege Nyege Festival

What the report says
Ugandan production house Ramon Film Productions, better known as Wakaliwood, has started work on a new action film tied to the Nyege Nyege Festival, with organizers saying festivalgoers will be able to participate in the production. The project was introduced at a Uganda Waragi-Wakaliwood event held at the studio in Wakaliga, Kampala, where filmmakers and culture enthusiasts discussed the state of Uganda’s film sector.
According to The Observer, Wakaliwood founder Isaac Nabwana directed opening scenes at the launch, giving attendees a preview of the planned interactive format. Roy Tumwizere, Uganda Waragi’s brand manager, was unexpectedly drawn into filming, while organizers said the broader festival experience would let participants choose roles in the story. Derrick Debru, co-founder of Nyege Nyege, said the film focus was intended to create more space for Ugandan filmmakers and reinforce the festival’s cultural identity.
The article also noted that Wakaliwood has a history with the festival, including the 2016 film Attack on Nyege Nyege Island. For the upcoming edition, the production will be limited to the Wakaliwood booth and participants will need to consent before taking part. The festival will also screen several Wakaliwood titles and feature live translation by VJ Emmy. More broadly, the 2026 Nyege Nyege Festival is expected to include music, film and other arts, with more than 200 artistes planned across seven stages.
