The New York Post reported that Lauren Glassberg, a veteran WABC-TV journalist and familiar presence on New York’s “Eyewitness News,” has left the Disney-owned station after 26 years. The Post said her exit was first noted by the industry newsletter FTVLive and was announced internally by WABC Vice President of News John Antonio. According to that staff email, Glassberg’s final day was July 15, and colleagues held a farewell gathering the night before.

Antonio described Glassberg’s departure as her own decision to pursue a new path and credited her wide range as a reporter. The Post said he cited her work on major breaking news, including the Sept. 11 attacks and a Hudson River helicopter crash, as well as feature reporting. Glassberg was especially associated with “Neighborhood Eats,” a long-running segment highlighting restaurants and food spots around New York City and nearby suburbs.

The Post also reported that several WABC colleagues posted tributes on social media, including reporter Stacey Sager, anchor Ryan Field and executive producer Bob Monek. Their messages emphasized Glassberg’s professionalism, newsroom relationships and ability to move between breaking news, features, parade coverage and occasional anchoring.

Glassberg joined WABC in 2000 after earlier television news jobs in Akron, Little Rock and Minneapolis, and she is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, according to the report. Neither Glassberg nor WABC has publicly announced her next role, and the Post said it sought comment from her. The move matters to local TV viewers because Glassberg had become one of Channel 7’s most recognizable reporters across more than two decades of coverage.
