What the report says

Vivo Energy Uganda has launched a nationwide promotion for Shell Advance AX7 10W-40, a motorcycle engine oil aimed at commercial riders, mechanics and other motorcycle users. The campaign, called “Linya Levo,” was announced in Kampala and is being positioned as a way to help boda boda operators manage high fuel and maintenance costs while improving engine performance.

According to The Independent Uganda, the company says the synthetic-blend lubricant is designed to extend service intervals, improve fuel economy and provide stronger engine protection. Vivo Energy said the product can last up to 7,000 kilometres between oil changes and may improve fuel efficiency compared with ordinary mineral oils. The firm also highlighted claims of reduced engine wear, cleaner pistons and better thermal protection under demanding operating conditions.

The campaign is also offering prizes to buyers who purchase one-litre packs from Shell stations or authorised dealers and enter a product code through a mobile prompt. Vivo Energy said riders could win items such as airtime, high-visibility jackets and keyrings. Company executives said the effort is meant to support riders whose motorcycles are central to their livelihoods, while encouraging more proactive maintenance.

More broadly, the launch reflects the pressure that fuel, servicing and downtime place on Uganda’s boda boda sector, a key part of everyday transport and small-scale income generation. The company said the initiative fits its wider focus on energy and lubricant products tailored to local transport needs.
