Vivo Energy Launches Shell Advance Campaign Targeting Boda Riders

What the report says
Vivo Energy Uganda has launched a new marketing campaign for Shell Advance AX7 10W-40 motorcycle engine oil, with the effort aimed at boda boda riders, other motorcycle users and people working in Uganda’s wider motorcycle economy. The company introduced the campaign, called “Linya Levo,” in Kampala on Tuesday, according to Nile Post, and said it is designed to encourage better motorcycle maintenance, improve fuel efficiency and help riders lower operating costs.
The product is described by the company as a synthetic-blend lubricant intended to protect engines under demanding riding conditions. Vivo Energy Uganda said the oil is meant to extend service intervals, improve fuel economy and reduce wear, though those figures are company claims reported by the publisher rather than independently verified results. The launch also included a consumer promotion tied to purchases of the oil from Shell stations or authorised dealers, with riders eligible for prizes such as airtime and small branded items.
Joanita Mukasa Menya, managing director of Vivo Energy Uganda, said the campaign reflects the importance of motorcycles as a source of income for many Ugandans. She said the company wants to work with riders, mechanics and garage owners on preventive maintenance and the use of genuine lubricants. Francis Kayoki, the company’s lubricants sales manager, said the initiative is meant to offer immediate rewards while encouraging better care of motorcycles.
The broader context is Uganda’s heavy reliance on boda boda transport for daily travel and livelihoods, which makes operating costs and downtime especially significant for riders. Vivo Energy said the campaign will continue over the coming months through outreach and feedback sessions with the motorcycle community.
