What the report says

Vipers SC have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League after a goalless second-leg draw away to FC Nouadhibou in Nouakchott, Mauritania, on Sunday. The result left the first preliminary-round tie level at 1-1 on aggregate, but the Mauritanian side advanced on the away-goals rule because they had scored in the first leg in Kitende.

According to Nile Post, Vipers began the match strongly and created several chances through Farouk Miya, Karim Watambala and Usama Arafat. Miya tested the Nouadhibou defence with an early free kick, while Watambala and Arafat also went close before halftime. After the break, Vipers continued to press, with Yunus Sentamu among those coming close to a breakthrough, but they were unable to convert their pressure into a goal.

Nouadhibou held firm to protect their advantage and move into the next round. The elimination ends Vipers’ campaign in this season’s competition at the first hurdle and leaves Uganda without that club in the tournament, while Nouadhibou continue their run in the CAF Champions League.

For context, the away-goals rule is used in some two-legged football ties to separate teams level on aggregate by giving priority to the side that scored more goals away from home.
