What the report says

Max Verstappen won the rain-affected Singapore Grand Prix sprint for Red Bull after George Russell crashed out while leading on the opening lap, according to Al Jazeera’s report published on 10 October 2026. The result gave Verstappen his first win of any kind in Singapore and came after a delayed start caused by a heavy shower before the session.

The sprint began behind the safety car on intermediate tyres before switching to a standing start. Russell, who lined up on the front row with Verstappen, made the strongest getaway but lost control after touching a white line at the final bend and slid into the pit lane wall. The crash triggered a safety car and left Russell to start Sunday’s Grand Prix from the back of the grid because of engine penalties.

Verstappen finished 2.50 seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton, with Charles Leclerc third. Hamilton made up ground from sixth on the grid, passing Leclerc and the McLarens early on. Late contact between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri dropped both drivers back, with championship leader Kimi Antonelli taking fourth. Liam Lawson, Oliver Bearman, Nico Hulkenberg and Norris completed the points positions.

The sprint underlined how difficult changing track conditions can be at Marina Bay, where rain, tyre choice and limited grip shaped the outcome.
