Valencia have dismissed head coach Carlos Corberan and football chief executive Ron Gourlay after a poor start to their La Liga campaign, BBC Sport Football reported. The club are bottom of the table with one point from five matches, and the decision follows last week’s 5-0 defeat by Barcelona.

According to the report, Valencia appointed Corberan in December 2024, when he was leaving West Bromwich Albion. Oscar Sanchez, who coaches Valencia B, will take charge on an interim basis. Corberan’s first-team coaching staff will also leave the club.

Valencia said the move was intended to begin a new phase for its sporting structure and football operations. The club said it will announce a revised football setup and plans for the next sporting project shortly. Gourlay, a former Chelsea chief executive who also worked at West Bromwich Albion, joined Valencia in December 2024 and will depart alongside several members of his team.

The shake-up comes after Valencia finished ninth last season and, under Corberan, improved to 12th from a position near the bottom when he first arrived. Corberan’s exit means Valencia will look for yet another permanent coach, with his replacement set to be the club’s 18th since 2012. Their next match is scheduled for Tuesday against Deportivo Alaves.
