Cyclingnews reported that American cyclist Brandon McNulty was knocked off his bike by a car driver shortly before the stage 16 individual time trial at the Tour de France in Évian-les-Bains on Tuesday. McNulty, who rides for UAE Team Emirates-XRG, was on his way to the start area when the incident occurred, according to team principal Mauro Gianetti.

Gianetti told TNT Sports that the vehicle was driven by a member of the public and that the circumstances were not fully clear. He said the car had been behind McNulty, passed him and then stopped, leading to the rider crashing into it. McNulty ultimately did begin the time trial on time, among the final group of riders.
