Al Jazeera, citing its staff, Reuters and The Associated Press, reported that a US Food and Drug Administration advisory panel is scheduled to consider whether seven peptide compounds should be allowed to be prepared by licensed compounding pharmacies for patients with prescriptions. The Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee is due to meet Thursday and Friday, according to the report published July 22, 2026.

Peptides are short amino-acid chains that occur in the body and can affect biological functions. Some peptide medicines, such as GLP-1 drugs used for weight loss, are already widely known. The compounds under review are separate products marketed for uses including inflammatory conditions, wound healing, obesity, migraines, chronic pain, insomnia and opioid withdrawal. Al Jazeera reported that examples include BPC-157, TB-500 and KPV.

The review comes amid rising consumer interest driven by wellness clinics, social media influencers and online communities, and after public support from US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who has said he used peptides with positive results and argued restrictions contribute to a grey market. FDA scientists, however, have questioned whether the seven compounds have adequate evidence of safety or effectiveness, pointing in meeting documents to limited human trials and concerns about product quality, stability and consistency.

The advisory process has also drawn scrutiny. AP reported that half of the 14 committee members have links to businesses or clinics involved in peptide therapies, including doctors who sell or promote peptide injections and a pharmacist-state senator connected to a family pharmacy. HHS said members underwent standard ethics screening. The committee’s advice is not binding, but it is expected to inform the FDA’s eventual decision.
