US launches fresh strikes on Iran, as Trump warns of retaliation for deaths of soldiers - BBC

What the report says
BBC News reports that the US military has carried out another round of strikes on Iran, the 10th consecutive night of such attacks, with US Central Command saying the operation was intended to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the BBC, President Donald Trump had earlier promised retaliation after the deaths of US service members in the region.
Centcom said the latest US targets included Iranian command facilities, maritime assets, missile and drone launch positions and air defence systems. Iranian state media reported explosions in several areas, including near Tabriz and at Gulf and south-eastern ports, and said one person was killed and others injured near Tabriz. Trump said Iran had been struck “very hard” after two US soldiers were killed in Jordan and another in Iraq.
Iran, citing state news agency IRNA, said it struck two oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and targeted US-linked military assets in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. The UK Maritime Trade Operations agency separately reported that a tanker in the strait was hit by an unidentified projectile and that its crew abandoned the vessel, though the BBC said it was unclear whether this was one of the ships Iran described. Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan reported intercepting or being targeted by Iranian drones or missiles, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guard also claimed a strike on Amazon-linked data infrastructure in Bahrain.
The developments matter because the Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for global energy shipments, and the widening exchange risks disrupting maritime traffic and drawing in more regional states. The BBC also reported that Tehran said indirect diplomatic messages were still being exchanged, while Trump said the US was not interested in talks unless Iran was ready for a meaningful meeting.
