US justice department investigates TV networks over Trump pool coverage

What the report says
The US Justice Department has opened an antitrust review into whether major television networks coordinated a response to the White House press pool dispute around President Donald Trump’s coverage. According to Nile Post’s report, the department asked ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and Fox News to provide communications about the pool arrangement and said the boycott could raise issues under the Sherman Act, the federal law covering anti-competitive conduct.
The dispute followed the Trump administration’s decision to revoke the White House credentials of reporters from CNN, MS Now and Politico. In response, five networks temporarily suspended pool coverage of Trump events for several days last month. Pool coverage normally allows participating outlets to share material with other media organizations. The Justice Department said it was simply determining whether any antitrust laws were violated.
The article also notes that the White House later restored access to the barred reporters after a court ruling. CNN, MS Now and Politico had argued in court that the restrictions infringed press freedom under the First Amendment. More broadly, the report places the case within a wider pattern of legal disputes between the Trump administration and news organizations over access and coverage, including earlier clashes involving the Associated Press and White House press access rules.
