The BBC reported that the restrictions cover nearly C$1bn ($710m) in Canadian liquor exports to the US, plus whey products used in protein powder and some motorcycle shipments. The paper said the impact on motorcycles is likely limited because Canada exported only about 5,000 units to the US in 2025.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has said the effects on Canada’s economy would be modest, while acknowledging that some directly affected businesses will be hurt. US trade representative Jamieson Greer told CNBC there was no urgency from Washington to resume talks. Trump has argued Canada has treated the US unfairly, while Canadian industry groups have warned the restrictions could be significant for liquor producers.
