UPDF Recruitment: 55 Youth Qualify in Moyo, Obongi on Day One

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has started its general recruitment exercise in Moyo and Obongi districts, with the first day held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Moyo District Headquarters. According to Nile Post, 83 young applicants from the two districts reported for medical screening on day one.

By the end of the screening, 55 applicants had qualified to move forward. The remaining 28 were disqualified on medical, documentation, or physical fitness grounds, the report said. In Moyo District, 36 applicants advanced, including regular and professional recruits, while 19 applicants qualified in Obongi District. The article also noted that several of the successful candidates were women.

The recruitment was supervised by district security and administrative officials, including Resident District Commissioners, Chief Administrative Officers, District Internal Security Officers, and General Intelligence and Security Officers. UPDF officials described the process as peaceful, fair, and transparent. Team Four leader Colonel Richard Kidega said there were no reported cases of forgery or bribery and reminded the public that recruitment does not require payment.

Second Lieutenant Wilfred Oloya, the UPDF public information officer for West Nile, said the successful applicants would proceed to the next stage before being sent to training schools. The exercise is part of the army’s wider nationwide recruitment effort to bring in new personnel for regular and professional service.
