UPDF Commissions Culture Administration Block To Boost Department Performance

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces has commissioned a new administration block for its Department of Culture at Land Force Headquarters in Bombo, according to Watchdog Uganda. The facility is intended to improve working conditions for the department and support its overall performance.

The commissioning was handled by Maj Gen Richard Karemire, the Joint Staff officer for Formal Education, Sports and Culture. He said suitable workplaces are important for helping the Culture Department carry out its mandate effectively, and he argued that the unit should not be expected to operate from temporary structures. His remarks also recognized the department’s role in promoting culture inside the UPDF and in presenting Uganda’s cultural heritage at events in the country and abroad.

Lt Col James Taremwa, the Head of Culture in the UPDF, said the many cultural backgrounds represented within the force can strengthen unity, cohesion and national identity. He said the department helps bring those traditions together and supports troop cohesion through shared cultural activities.

Watchdog Uganda reported that the department also takes part in national functions and international engagements through traditional performances, music, dance and acrobatics. The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior and junior officers. The development is significant as it reflects the military’s continuing investment in internal welfare, cultural outreach and institutional identity.
