UPDF commissions 24 housing units at Mountain Infantry Division

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has commissioned 24 new housing units at its Mountain Infantry Division headquarters in Muhooti, Fort Portal, as part of a broader effort to improve accommodation and welfare for officers, soldiers and their families. The commissioning was reported by Nile Post and was led by Deputy Commander Land Forces Maj Gen Felix Busizoori.

According to the report, Busizoori said the army would keep building housing across its formations despite constrained resources, describing the project as part of wider improvements to service conditions within the UPDF. He said the housing push had been supported under the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who previously served as Commander Land Forces. He also urged beneficiaries to use the homes responsibly and to continue preparing for life after military service.

Mountain Infantry Division Commander Maj Gen Stephen Mugerwa thanked the UPDF leadership for selecting the division for the project, saying the houses would strengthen the welfare of personnel. Busizoori also commissioned a two-classroom block at Mountain of the Moon Primary School and encouraged the division to supervise infrastructure projects carefully through its construction committees.

More broadly, the development fits a common pattern in military organisations of investing in barracks housing and related facilities to support morale, retention and family stability. In this case, the new units add to ongoing infrastructure spending at UPDF installations across Uganda.
