UPC Opens Disciplinary Hearings Against Nine Members

The Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) has begun disciplinary proceedings against at least nine of its members over alleged misconduct and breaches of the party’s constitution and rules of procedure, according to Nile Post. The case is being handled by the party’s National Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Paul Peter Okello.

The hearings started on August 31, with the first sitting taking place on September 1 at Garden Inn Hotel in Lira City. UPC head of media and communications Faizo Muzeyi said the members were brought before the committee for alleged violations of internal party rules. Among those named were Enap Adim Denis, Jack Kabusu, Natukunda Nawume Aisha, Magero Emmanuel Were, Hon. Achola Suzan, Ongom Chris, Ogwal Adyebo Alex, Ewal George and Babirye Josephine.

Muzeyi said the hearings were adjourned to September 3 and are expected to resume at the party headquarters at Uganda House in Kampala. He added that the disciplinary committee operates as an independent party organ and will communicate its findings through the established process.

The development highlights ongoing internal discipline efforts within UPC, one of Uganda’s opposition parties, and comes amid broader efforts by political organizations to enforce party rules and conduct among members. Muzeyi also said lower-level disciplinary committees are handling other cases in their own jurisdictions, and he urged party members to follow the UPC Code of Conduct and Ugandan law.
