Union Online Duuka hits Ugandan market

What the report says
The Independent Uganda reports that the Union Transport Alliance has launched Union Online Duuka, a digital shopping and finance platform powered by RukaPay, at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The launch brought together leaders from Uganda’s bus, taxi, boda boda and truck sectors, along with partners and guests, as the alliance highlighted its push to modernize transport-related services.
According to the report, the platform is intended to combine shopping, delivery and access to credit in one place. Customers can browse products on phones, including feature phones, view offers, and, if eligible, use Union loan products for purchases such as school fees, stock replenishment and short-term support. The service is also meant to support members of the transport unions and their families, with delivery available in Kampala and Greater Kampala.
Union Transport Alliance CEO Fred Ssenoga Bagenda said the initiative follows earlier efforts to organize and discipline the sector and now adds digital systems to that work. RukaPay Uganda founder and CEO Rowena Turinawe said the partnership is designed to connect Uganda’s transport ecosystem to the digital economy and make everyday transactions easier. The report also notes involvement from CPF Financial Services in Kenya and says the launch was presented as part of a wider plan to support growth in Uganda’s transport and digital commerce sectors.
