UNEB Urges UCE Candidates to Approach Exams Without Panic

What the report says
The Uganda National Examinations Board has urged candidates preparing for the 2026 Uganda Certificate of Education examinations to stay calm, avoid panic and follow exam instructions carefully. In remarks made at UNEB offices in Kyambogo, Executive Director Daniel Odongo said the board wants learners to approach the papers with confidence after years of preparation.
According to Nile Post, Odongo framed the exams as part of a broader assessment process under the current curriculum, which is intended to show a learner’s level of achievement and help guide them toward suitable education and career choices. He said the exercise should not be treated as a final judgment on a student’s future, but as one stage in a wider learning journey.
Odongo also warned candidates against malpractice and other conduct that could affect their results. He encouraged them to rely on the knowledge and skills they have built up, and said the board expects them to work within the rules set for the examination period.
The article said 503,355 candidates have registered for the 2026 UCE exams, including 264,722 girls and 238,333 boys, a 16% increase from the previous year. UNEB has placed this year’s exams under the theme of secure, credible, inclusive and innovative assessment and certification.
