UNEB Extends UCE Registration for Late Candidates Ahead of October 9 Cut-Off

What the report says
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has extended limited registration for late Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) candidates, saying it will keep accepting cases until October 9, when exam papers are sealed. According to Nile Post, the board is allowing the exception to help learners whose centres recently came forward or may have been left out of the registration process, even though the official deadlines have already passed.
UNEB Executive Director Daniel Odong said the board is making the adjustment in the interest of the learners, but late registrations will attract a surcharge. Schools that register UCE candidates late will pay double the normal fee, with the UCE registration cost rising from Shs164,000 to Shs328,000. The same approach applies to late Primary Leaving Examination registrations, while Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education candidates also remain under review because their exams are scheduled later.
The board said it has already added newly identified UCE candidates to its register and is working on their subject details so papers can be prepared for the correct centres. Odong also urged parents and guardians to check school candidate registers to confirm their children have been entered. He said the surcharge is partly meant to discourage last-minute registration by examination centres.
UNEB also said it will deploy more than 3,000 personnel to 514 UCE examination stations for supervision and security. The article says each station will have a chief scout, military police and Uganda Police officers, alongside additional scouts where needed, as part of efforts to protect the integrity of the 2026 exams.
