Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s St Petersburg kills 1, hits energy sites

What the report says
Al Jazeera reports that a large Ukrainian drone attack hit Russia’s St Petersburg region on Sunday, killing at least one person and injuring five, according to the city’s governor, Alexandre Beglov. The attack set off fires at the St Petersburg oil terminal, the Ruchi oil depot and industrial warehouses in the Kolpino district, and also damaged residential buildings and two houses. City authorities said operations at St Petersburg’s main airport were restricted for safety reasons.
Russian officials said the raid also affected infrastructure beyond the city. The governor of the surrounding Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, said 145 drones were shot down and about 20,000 people lost electricity. Russian state media described it as the biggest attack on the region in four years. Separately, Russia’s defence ministry said 1,015 Ukrainian drones were neutralized overnight.
The same report says Russian strikes on Ukraine overnight killed two people and injured 12, including children, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He said Russian attacks continued to target energy and oil and gas facilities despite what US President Donald Trump had described as an energy ceasefire. Zelenskyy said Kyiv would resume strikes on Russian refineries, arguing Moscow had not reciprocated. The broader context is the continuing cross-border campaign against energy and transport infrastructure, which has remained a major feature of the war.
