Police in Scotland have confirmed that several athletes from Uganda were unaccounted for after the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, according to Al Jazeera’s reporting from AFP. The development came after the closing ceremony on Sunday, with officers saying they had received reports of athletes who had not returned and were making enquiries with the Home Office.

The Uganda Boxing Federation said only two members of its six-person boxing squad had returned home to Uganda by Tuesday evening. Federation president Moses Muhangi identified the missing athletes as team captain Nuhu Batte, along with one other male boxer and two female boxers. He said it was too early to describe the situation as a disappearance and noted that the athletes’ UK visas were still valid.

Al Jazeera reported that the team included boxers who had been scheduled to travel home at different times after the Games. The returning athletes included Aziz Abdul, a grandson of former Ugandan ruler Idi Amin, who was previously disqualified in a quarterfinal. Games chief executive Phil Batty said organisers were working with police, Border Force and immigration authorities to ensure athletes arrived and departed in line with regulations.

The report also said a Pakistani boxer was separately reported by regional media to have failed to return on schedule. The broader issue matters because it raises questions about athlete movement and visa compliance around major international sporting events.
