What the report says

UK police have charged a serving Royal Navy member in a national security case involving allegations that he worked for an unnamed foreign power. According to Al Jazeera, 24-year-old Teddy Young was accused after an investigation led by counterterrorism police in the United Kingdom. He faces two offences under the National Security Act, including allegedly obtaining protected information and preparing to pass it on for the benefit of a foreign power.

Authorities said the conduct is alleged to have taken place between November 2024 and May 2025. Young is scheduled to appear later on Thursday at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London. Commander Helen Flanagan of Counter Terrorism Policing London described the charges as serious and said investigators had worked with Ministry of Defence colleagues to reduce any possible risks connected to the case.

UK media cited by Al Jazeera reported that Young was arrested at his home in Bedfordshire on Tuesday before being taken into custody in London. Police also stressed that the case is separate from an ongoing investigation involving RAF Fairford airbase. The report did not identify the foreign power involved. The case adds to broader concerns in Britain and other Western countries about alleged efforts by foreign states to obtain sensitive defence information.
