Uganda: Woman Loses Ear in Suspected Rape Attempt in Kasese

Police in Kasese District, western Uganda, are searching for two suspects after a violent attack on a 29-year-old woman left her without her right ear, according to reporting republished by AllAfrica from Nile Post. The incident was reported in the early hours of Thursday, 31 July 2026, in Kasese Municipality.

The woman, identified as Moreen Masika, was travelling on a motorcycle with her brother-in-law when the riders were blocked by stones placed on the road. Police said one suspect, reportedly masked and emerging from nearby bushes, threatened the victim and tried to rape her. During the struggle, she resisted, and the attacker allegedly used a sharp object to cut off her ear. A second suspect was said to be involved in confronting the motorcycle rider.

The attack ended when another boda boda rider arrived, prompting the suspects to flee. Police said one fleeing suspect was identified by the motorcycle rider as a fellow boda boda operator believed to live in Kidodo Cell, which investigators hope will help the search. The victim was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment and remains admitted.

Police later documented the scene and recovered the severed ear as part of the investigation. The case has renewed attention to safety risks for women traveling at night and to concerns about violent crime involving road ambushes in the area.
