Uganda Urged to Stay Vigilant as Aids Foundation Donates Ebola Preparedness Supplies

Ugandan health officials are urging continued Ebola vigilance, especially in border communities and among travelers to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the disease is still circulating. The warning came as AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Uganda Cares donated personal protective equipment and infection prevention supplies valued at Shs144.7 million to support national preparedness.

According to Nile Post, Dr Susan Nabadda of the Ministry of Health said people crossing the Uganda-DRC border should stay alert, avoid contact with suspected cases or contaminated body fluids, practise hand hygiene and report symptoms quickly. She said maintaining supplies and readiness before an emergency is important for protecting health workers and communities. The donation, she noted, is meant to help Uganda respond better if Ebola or another viral haemorrhagic fever is imported.

AHF Deputy Africa Bureau Chief Dr Kate Samula said the handover was about preparedness and partnership, arguing that outbreak response is strongest when systems are reinforced before a crisis and sustained after one ends. She also stressed that infectious diseases can move across borders, making surveillance and infection prevention essential.

Nile Post reported that Uganda declared the end of its 2026 Ebola outbreak on July 28 after completing the required monitoring period without new transmission. Even so, officials say the country must remain ready because of cross-border movement and the region’s ongoing health risks. More broadly, Uganda has faced repeated Ebola outbreaks over the years, which is why preparedness remains a public health priority.
