Uganda: Tooro King Reappoints Rwomiire As Acting Prime Minister

What the report says
In Fort Portal, Uganda, Tooro Kingdom’s new ruler, Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, has reappointed Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki as acting prime minister for a six-month transitional period. The announcement, reported by The Independent and distributed by AllAfrica, comes as the kingdom adjusts to a new leadership chapter after the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru IV.
According to the report, the appointment was made public by the king’s principal personal secretary and spokesperson, Paul Nyakaana Businge. Rwomiire had previously served as prime minister from February 2025 until Oyo’s death in August. Alongside his reappointment, Nyabongo also confirmed other leadership changes, including the return of Prince Charles Kamurasi as head of the Babiito royal clan, with Bernard Kato Rwakatale as his assistant, and named an 11-member advisory committee to support the administration.
Rwomiire said he accepted the role with seriousness and called for cooperation from the royal family, kingdom leaders and the wider public. He said his team would focus on issues such as salary arrears for staff, administrative systems, youth projects, county visits, agriculture, the completion of the Masaza tournament, and a strategic plan for the kingdom. The transition is taking place shortly after Nyabongo’s formal coronation as successor to Oyo, who died in August while receiving treatment in the United States.
