What the report says

Uganda has been selected to host the International Water Association’s Water and Development Congress and Exhibition in 2027, with Kampala set to welcome thousands of water-sector professionals, policymakers, investors and development partners. According to Nile Post, the announcement was made in Glasgow, Scotland, during the IWA’s 2026 Annual General Meeting.

The event is being prepared with support from the Government of Uganda and the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), which will lead local coordination. The congress is described as a major international gathering for discussing water and sanitation challenges, especially in low- and middle-income countries, and for building links between utilities, researchers, financiers and technology firms. NWSC officials and IWA leaders have already held an initial planning meeting.

Nile Post reports that the 2027 edition is expected to draw more than 3,000 delegates, offering Uganda a chance to strengthen international cooperation, attract investment and expand conference tourism. It also follows NWSC’s experience hosting the African Water and Sanitation Association congress in Kampala in 2025, which the utility said brought in more than 2,500 delegates.

Beyond the technical agenda, the congress is expected to support Uganda’s hospitality and tourism sectors and give the country an opportunity to highlight its attractions. Final dates and the venue have not yet been announced, and preparations will continue with IWA, NWSC and other national partners.
