Uganda, Türkiye Intensify Trade and Investment Cooperation Ahead of Key Summits

Uganda and Türkiye are stepping up economic cooperation by speeding up pending agreements and coordinating preparations for a pair of upcoming summits focused on trade, investment, health, science and innovation, according to Nile Post. The push was discussed in Kampala during a working visit by Uganda’s ambassador to Türkiye, Nusura Tiperu, to Ambassador Henry Mayega, who heads international economic cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The talks reviewed the state of bilateral relations and how to better align work between the ministry headquarters and Uganda’s embassy in Ankara. The diplomats focused on four priorities: clearing outstanding agreements, improving coordination, advancing trade and investment diplomacy, and preparing for the Uganda–Türkiye–Gulf States Trade and Investment Summit and the Uganda–Türkiye Health, Science, Technology and Innovation Summit.

Nile Post reported that the planned meetings are expected to draw government officials, investors and private sector actors to discuss investment, industrial development and knowledge exchange. The broader goal is to turn diplomatic ties into practical outcomes such as more investment, wider markets and stronger export opportunities for Ugandan products.

The article also noted that Uganda and Türkiye have already expanded cooperation in areas including defence, trade, education and health. The ambassadors agreed to set up regular coordination mechanisms to track implementation ahead of the summits later this year.
