Uganda Secures South Korean Distributor for Coffee Exports

Uganda has reached a new coffee export agreement with South Korean firm Global Value Change Coffee Center (GVCC) Co. Ltd, giving the company exclusive rights to distribute Ugandan coffee in South Korea. According to Nile Post, the arrangement was signed in Busan during the Uganda–Korea Trade and Investment Meeting, and the first shipment is already moving to the Korean market.

The article says the initial consignment consists of two 20-tonne containers, bringing the first volume to 40 tonnes. Besmark Coffee Company Ltd will act as Uganda’s exclusive supply partner, while GVCC handles distribution in South Korea. The deal is intended to open a new channel for Ugandan exporters and deepen the country’s presence in Asia.

Ugandan officials framed the partnership as part of broader efforts to expand trade, support value addition, and improve returns for farmers. The delegation was led by Second Deputy Prime Minister Crispus Kiyonga, with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives represented by Assistant Commissioner for External Trade Richard Okot.

More broadly, the agreement fits Uganda’s ongoing push to diversify markets for coffee, its leading agricultural export. Nile Post reports that the deal is also expected to strengthen commercial ties with South Korea and create opportunities across the coffee value chain.
