Uganda’s Samuel Nabeeta wins top renewable energy, innovation award in Spain

Ugandan entrepreneur Samuel Nabeeta Mulowooza has received an international honorary award in Spain for work linked to renewable energy advocacy, innovation and youth empowerment, according to The Independent Uganda. The recognition was presented on Sunday, August 30, at the close of the Clevenard Open Project 2026 gathering in Alicante, a multi-day event that brought together people from business, policy, education, the arts and other sectors.

The publisher said the award also reflects Nabeeta’s broader contributions in entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, economic transformation and media engagement in Uganda and across Africa. Nabeeta, who leads SUNBOX Solar Limited and Eye Power Engineering, was also featured as a keynote speaker at a summit held during the same event on August 28, where he discussed renewable energy, entrepreneurship, skills development and youth-led innovation.

In his remarks reported by The Independent, Nabeeta argued that Africa’s energy transition needs stronger regulatory coordination, ways to reduce currency risk for investors and requirements for local ownership and skills transfer in energy projects. He also said small businesses on the continent face structural barriers such as power shortages, high financing costs and limited digital infrastructure. Those comments were presented as part of a wider message about how renewable energy and business reform can support sustainable economic growth.

The report places Nabeeta’s award within a larger international forum that highlighted cooperation among delegates from Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, Asia and the Americas.
