Uganda’s Reagan Muyinda to head YouLead Program

The Independent Uganda reports that Ugandan development practitioner Reagan Muyinda has been named YouLead Project Coordinator, giving him responsibility for the day-to-day running of the continent’s youth leadership programme. The appointment places him at the center of a regional initiative focused on youth leadership, policy engagement and participation in governance and economic development.

YouLead is a joint programme of the MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation and the East African Community Secretariat. According to the report, it was launched in 2017 and has since expanded through fellowships, summits and policy discussions involving young leaders across Africa. The publication says Muyinda will oversee the YouLead Secretariat and help deliver the programme’s main workstreams, including youth in politics, youth in business and related thematic areas.

The article also notes that YouLead is involved in ongoing policy work with the African Peer Review Mechanism Continental Secretariat and Restless Development to review the African Youth Charter on its 20th anniversary. That work is intended to inform a continental policy brief to be released around International Youth Day. Separately, the programme has helped assess the East African Community Youth Policy and has supported the youth-led ICOYACA network on the African Continental Free Trade Area agenda.

The Independent says Muyinda previously held roles within YouLead and has experience in governance, research and youth programming. His appointment is presented as a continuation of his long association with the initiative and as part of broader efforts to strengthen youth participation in regional policy making.
