Uganda’s Martin Musau wins Lisbon Marathon

What the report says
Uganda’s Martin Musau won the 2026 EDP Lisbon Marathon in Portugal, according to The Observer, finishing in a personal-best 2:08:07. The 28-year-old moved clear of two Kenyan runners in the closing stages of Saturday’s race, edging Gilbert Korir, who was second in 2:08:33, and Stephen Chebon, who placed third in 2:08:35.
The report said the race stayed tightly grouped for much of the 42.195-kilometre course. The front pack was still bunched at halfway and had narrowed to six runners by 30 kilometres, with Musau, Korir and Chebon forming the decisive battle near the end. Musau’s winning surge came in the final two kilometres, when he created enough separation to secure the title in Lisbon.
The victory also improved Musau’s previous personal best of 2:08:42, which he set at the Hamburg Marathon in 2024. After the race, he said the result would encourage him to keep working toward stronger performances on the international stage. Uganda Athletics Federation president Dominic Otuchet also praised the result, saying it reflected the potential of Ugandan distance runners.
More broadly, the win adds to Uganda’s profile in international road racing, a discipline in which East African athletes have often been prominent. The result gives Musau a new benchmark as he seeks to build on his marathon progress.
