Uganda Positions e-Mobility and Innovation as Drivers of Investment Growth

What the report says
Nile Post reports that Uganda is seeking to strengthen its appeal to investors by prioritising electric mobility, innovation, agro-processing and industrialisation. The publication says the message was reinforced during a high-level engagement involving the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat, known as SHIPU, government ministries, departments and agencies, and Avani Smarts Farm.
According to the report, participants discussed ways to accelerate investment and sustainable growth in areas such as high-value agro-processing, life sciences, value addition, clean transport and technology-driven innovation. The government and private sector partners also pledged closer collaboration on technology transfer, sustainable agriculture and job creation, with the broader aim of building a more modern and competitive economy.
Electric mobility was presented as a major priority. Nile Post cited Winstone Katushabe, Commissioner for Transport Regulation and Safety and Chief Licensing Officer, as saying Uganda’s shift toward e-mobility is now part of the national agenda, supported by government policy, the National Development Plan IV and a roadmap for sustainable transport. The report says officials pointed to supportive regulation, charging infrastructure, local manufacturing, innovation and partnerships as key elements in expanding electric vehicle adoption.
The article also highlights the Electronic Investors Protection Portal as part of efforts to improve investor confidence. Stakeholders said the platform is intended to coordinate government support, increase transparency and help resolve investor concerns more quickly. The development matters because Uganda is trying to link policy, technology and private investment to job creation, greener transport and wider economic transformation.
