Uganda Police reaffirms readiness for regional peace missions as EASF verifies deployment capabilities

The Uganda Police Force has said it is ready to take part in regional peace support missions as the Eastern Africa Standby Force carries out a verification exercise in Uganda. Deputy Inspector General of Police James Ocaya conveyed the commitment while receiving an EASF delegation at Police Headquarters. The team, led by Ronald Rwivanga, is evaluating whether Uganda’s designated personnel, equipment and planning meet the standards needed for regional deployment. Ocaya said the police remain operationally prepared to support peace and security efforts when called upon.

He also said the officers identified for deployment have completed required pre-deployment training, including instruction in international humanitarian law and human rights law. That training, he said, is meant to ensure personnel can serve professionally and in line with international norms. Nile Post reported that the police view this as part of a wider effort to maintain professionalism and strengthen regional cooperation.
