What the report says

Uganda has pitched Thai investors on a package of incentives that includes 10-year tax holidays, 100% foreign ownership and unrestricted profit repatriation, according to Watchdog Uganda. The proposal was presented at the Uganda-Thailand Economic Networking Dinner in Bangkok on Monday, October 12, 2026, held alongside the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund.

The Ugandan delegation was led by finance officials including Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury Ramathan Ggoobi and Finance Minister Henry Musasizi, with participation from Bank of Uganda Governor Michael Atingi-Ego and Uganda’s envoy to Thailand, Betty Bigombe. Thai officials, investors and private sector representatives also attended. Uganda said it is seeking more investment in agro-processing, manufacturing, minerals, tourism and related services.

According to the report, Uganda highlighted a set of incentives under its investment framework, including tax relief for qualifying manufacturers and agro-processors, duty exemptions on selected inputs and access to industrial parks and free zones. Musasizi said registration can be completed quickly and encouraged Thai businesses to consider joint ventures as well as wholly owned operations. He also pointed to Uganda’s access to the East African Community customs area and the African Continental Free Trade Area as a route to wider regional markets.

The event comes as Uganda tries to deepen commercial ties with Thailand, where trade remains relatively small. Watchdog Uganda said the dinner built on earlier outreach in Bangkok and reflected Uganda’s push to attract capital into sectors it sees as central to long-term growth.
