Uganda-Nigeria business forum set to unlock new trade and investment opportunities

Uganda and Nigeria are preparing to broaden economic ties through the Uganda-Nigeria Business Forum and Exhibition 2026, set for September 9–10 at Mestil Hotel & Residences in Kampala. According to The Independent, the two-day event will bring together more than 20 Nigerian companies, Ugandan businesses, investors and policymakers to explore trade, investment, market access and partnerships under the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The forum is being organised by the Uganda High Commission in Abuja, working with the governments of Uganda and Nigeria. Officials said the goal is to move beyond diplomatic contacts and create direct business matchmaking across sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, agro-processing, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, financial services, ICT, digital payments and the creative industries. The event will include exhibitions, sector discussions, investment showcases and a town hall, alongside a Uganda Hub and a fintech section.

Speakers quoted by the paper said the gathering could help address practical barriers that have limited trade, including product registration, standards compliance, market-entry rules and visa issues. They also pointed to Uganda Airlines’ direct link with Abuja as a factor that may support trade and tourism. The Independent noted that bilateral trade remains small relative to the size of both economies, which is why organisers see room for new commercial links and stronger cross-border investment.

The forum is expected to produce follow-up business visits, possible commitments and a roadmap for continued cooperation between East and West Africa.
