What the report says

Farmers in Nebbi District, western Uganda, have received agricultural inputs and equipment under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project, according to a report by Nile Post distributed through AllAfrica. The handover took place at the district water office and involved six farmer groups from several sub-counties, including Ndhew, Erussi, Acana and Alala.

The supplies included wheelbarrows, spray pumps, organic fertiliser, soybean seed, tarpaulins, pruning saws, gumboots, masks and overalls. Project officials said the program is backed by the government with support from the World Bank and is meant to promote climate-smart farming, raise productivity and help farmers cope with erratic rainfall and dry spells that have affected agriculture in the West Nile region.

Nebbi district officials said the delivery should help revive participation in the project and improve implementation. The senior agricultural officer noted that some farmers had lost interest, while the district chairperson said the latest items met required standards after earlier concerns about substandard deliveries. The resident district commissioner also linked the project to wider efforts to reduce rural poverty and raise household incomes.

The project is reported to support multiple livelihood areas across Nebbi, including crop production, beekeeping, beef and fish farming. In addition to coffee and soybean production, it is intended to diversify incomes and encourage farming practices better suited to changing weather patterns.
