What the report says

President Yoweri Museveni has called on residents of Isingiro District in southwestern Uganda to convert their political support for the ruling National Resistance Movement into better household incomes and broader economic progress. According to Nile Post, the message was delivered on Wednesday by Vice President Jessica Alupo during NRM victory celebrations in Isingiro.

Museveni urged people to back government wealth-creation programmes, work harder and focus on economic transformation rather than treating electoral success as an end in itself. The event was organised by State Minister for Animal Industry and Isingiro North MP Bright Rwamirama and drew hundreds of residents, local leaders and lawmakers from the district’s five constituencies.

Alupo said the government had heard earlier concerns from the district and was giving attention to infrastructure and health priorities, including a district hospital and transport corridors. She said several roads, among them routes linking Rakai, Ntantamuki, Kaberebere, Nyamuyanja, Kabuyanda and Mutukura, were among the planned projects. Local leaders, including district LC5 chairperson Alone Turahi, said residents still need an equipped hospital and faster road completion to support healthcare and commercial activity.

The celebration also featured several ministers and MPs. The broader significance is that the government is tying political loyalty in the area to practical development promises, especially roads, health services and income-generating programmes that could affect trade and livelihoods.
